What You Need to Know About Eyelash Extensions. Part 1: Length & Thickness
Eyelash extensions have become a well-established, standard beauty service in recent years. These extensions are extremely effective at changing one’s look drastically by enhancing their eyes, the window to the soul. As you’re aware, they are very popular among a wide age range of many women. There are so many factors to consider when designing eyelash extensions, such as the degree of the curl, length, and thickness. In this blog post, we will be talking about how the length and thickness of eyelash extensions affect the overall look.
・ How to choose the best length for your eyelash extensions.
Eyelash extensions are available from 6mm to 16mm and every size in between by 1mm increments. However, different salons carry different sizes, so it’s best to check ahead of time. Choose which part of the eye you want to place the longest lashes, and map out the rest of the lash to fit the natural shape of an eye.
Apply and adjust each lash extension from the inner corner to the outer corner. Mapping out the lash line helps to keep the lashes looking natural, in a form that fits the shape of the eye.
Basically, you want to decide on the final look you would like to achieve, and then, choose the length according to your desired look.
9mm to 11mm extensions are the most popular length. 9mm is ideal for a natural look. 10mm works best when you want your eyelash extensions to be a little more noticeable. 11mm is great if you want your eyes to be the main focus. Any length longer than 13mm will give a dramatic, false lash look.
・ How to choose the thickness of your eyelash extensions.
The thickness of the lash extensions will make a huge difference in the impression that it gives. Thicker, fuller lashes will give you a more glamorous look, whereas the slender, softer lashes will give you a more classic, graceful look.
Most popular thicknesses are 0.1mm and 0.15mm, but there is a wide range of thicknesses starting from 0.1mm to above 0.2mm. Many of you may think, “I might as well, go with thicker lashes,” but we don’t recommend thinking about it in this way when making your final decision. One disadvantage to thicker lashes is that they tend to come off easily. Also, you don’t want to have a disproportionate look with only your eyelashes standing out. (Yikes!)
We highly recommend consulting your stylist before making the final decisions, because it’s important to have well-balanced, proportionate lashes that match your facial structure and style.
Why are people talking about “volume lashing,” and what is it?
In a conventional, classic method, one lash extension is applied to a single natural lash. However, volume lashing is a method of applying a batch of lashes to a single natural lash to achieve a fuller look. This style has been gaining popularity for people that have thin or fewer natural lashes. You don’t have to apply extensions to the entire eyelash either, so it’s a great way to add volume where you want.
I hope the information we’ve provided you in this blog will help you to decide on your next eyelash extension design. We’ll talk about curls and designs in the next blog post. Stay tuned!
